Trenutno plastika gubi oko 95% vrijednosti kao materijal nakon jedne upotrebe. Poticanje prikupljanja i upotrebe takvog otpada klju\u010dno je za rje\u0161avanje globalnog problema zaga\u0111enja plastikom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Istra\u017eiva\u010di su ve\u0107 razvili mutirane enzime za razgradnju polietilen tereftalatnog polimera koji se koristi za boce s pi\u0107ima na njegove osnovne jedinice, tereftalnu kiselinu (TA). Znanstvenici su sada koristili gre\u0161ke za pretvaranje TA u vanilin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vanilin se \u0161iroko koristi u prehrambenoj i kozmeti\u010dkoj industriji i va\u017ena je masovna kemikalija koja se koristi za proizvodnju lijekova, proizvoda za \u010di\u0161\u0107enje i herbicida. Globalna potra\u017enja raste i 2018. godine iznosila je 37.000 tona, \u0161to je daleko prema\u0161ilo ponudu prirodnih zrna vanilije. Znanstvenici su zagrijavali mikrobnu juhu na 37 stepeni Celzijevih jedan dan, pod istim uvjetima kao i za kuhanje piva, rekao je Wallace. Ovo je pretvorilo 79% TA u vanilin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Idu\u0107e \u0161to \u0107e uraditi znanstvenici je da \u0107e dodatno prilagoditi bakterije kako bi dodatno pove\u0107ali stopu konverzije.
